Clinical Use
Helps to relieve viral and bacterial based
flu symptoms such as: sudden onset of sore throat, body aches,
fatigue, nausea, fever/chills, headache, and dizziness. If symptoms
include pronounced head and sinus congestion with yellow mucous,
use Attack #1.
ATTACK #2 can also be used for feverish or
systemic bacterial or viral infections, or to help manage
conditions such as: mononucleosis, HIV, mumps, strep throat,
non-specific feverish conditions and difficult to treat bacterial
infections.
Suggested Dosage
1 - 2 tsp. in c warm water 3-6 times daily
between meals until symptoms are relieved. This formula can
be taken for up to 10 days if heat symptoms are still obvious.
Cautions & Considerations
This is a much colder formula than Attack
#1. There needs to be a clear picture of excess heat.
Once the symptoms are relieved, you should stop the formula
and use a restorative formula like Deeply
Immune. Side effects with higher sustained doses can affect
the digestive system (loss of appetite, loose stools). Usually,
this is not a problem unless too high a dose is maintained
without corresponding heat symptoms (i.e. at the end of the
illness).
TCM Explanation of the Formula
Over 60% of the herbs are dedicated to
clearing toxic heat. The strongest in that function are: Andrographis,
Mahonia, Viola, Echinacea, Isatis root/ leaf,
Chrysanthemum Flower and Licorice Root.
These seven herbs work well together to cover a very wide
spectrum of bacterial and viral strains.
Much research has been done on the benefits of Andrographis.
Its properties include analgesic, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory,
expectorant, Immuno-stimulant and protection of the liver
organ. In China, it is often included in formulas for Cancer.
Platycodon and Morus Root
have been included to make sure that the lung qi is open and
circulating. It is quite common for toxic heat to penetrate
to the lungs. It is essential to purge this type of pathogenic
invasion as quickly as possible, otherwise, the condition
can deteriorate rapidly. Many formulas do not consider the
importance of protecting the lung qi even when there are no
lung symptoms.
The use of Reishi Mushroom dates back many
centuries in China, where it was revered as a major longevity
herb. Its function in this formula is to strengthen the immune
system and help protect the liver organ (which is often overloaded
in these conditions in its attempts to neutralize endotoxins).
Reishi Mushroom helps support the kidney
qi and blood. This is important in potentially debilitating
infectious conditions.
Ginger Root and Citrus Peel work
together to keep the spleen and stomach from congesting. In
addition, they help with the assimilation of the formula and
balance some of the effects of the cold herbs.
