TCM Explanation of the Formula
This formula is designed to function as
a bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory and anti-histamine. In
addition, there are herbs to help prevent secondary bacterial
or viral infections. Allergees also acts to regulate the immune
response to help resolve the hypersensitivity towards external
allergens or toxins.
The first four herbs: Mahonia, Juniper Berry, Larrea
Leaf and Burdock Root clear heat,
but also assist in drying the wetness.
Lobelia Leaf, Parsley Root, Stinging Nettle leaf,
Poria Fungus, Wild Ginger Root, Pinellia Platycodon Root
and Eyebright work together to strongly dry
up the excessive accumulated wetness and help to regulate
the underlying conditions causing this problem.
It is not enough to dry fluids and clear heat, herbs are also
necessary to open the stagnated qi in the head and lungs.
Osha Root, Red Peony Root, Magnolia Flower, Ephedra,
Loquat Leaf serve that purpose here.
Weak spleen and lungs can both contribute to excessive fluids
accumulating (not being circulated). So some mild tonification
can help reduce that tendency. Codonopsis
is a mild but effective spleen and lung tonic.
Marshmallow Root tonifies the lung yin and
prevents over drying.
